My heart is as well - hope to be changed drastically as my face is, from moderate moslem into conservative moslem. But may be its not as bad as your imagination. Well, I will tell you my story...
I used to be a moslem as other ordinary moslem you can find in Indonesia. I used to practicing all Islamic teachings, and am now -actually. It just, now, I feel all of my practices such as the 5 times praying (shalat), fasting, ect, be more meaningful for my spirit.
I am trying to clean my faith with the cleanest iman, implementing the meaning of Laa ilaaha illaLlah with all the consequences associated with it. It is not easy, even very hard. Because if you live in modern day, there are many things distract you from implementing these words purely.
It is not much changes on how my day to day life, because this is the hardest part, you got to believe me! But the important thing is to direct your heart into quran and sunah as the only guidance or law for your life. Ibnul Qoyyim al Jauziah once mentioned nice saying: "I don't afraid about my sins, because there are always chances of forgiveness. What I do afraid of is, my heart turns away from taking Quran and Sunnah as the only law, I sincere and deceived by human's falsity, so then no more bestow from the Almighty".
Life in this era, where democracy is adopted in many Islam countries includes Indonesia, we will be deceived by some teachings such that democracy is part of Islam, or democracy is aligned with Islam. However, Allah gave us a sense to think, and a logic to filter. How could democracy aligned with Islam, while their meanings are so contrast. Democracy means people power where human's law is the supremacy. While Islam only recognizes Allah's Law (Quran and Sunnah) as the only law. So here I am, I reject democracy to enter into my life. I throw away it and all of its products, and trying back to the originality of Islamic teachings. No more party for me. My friends used to link me with some Islamic political party, because I was, indeed, part of it. I am trying to erase that thing also.
I realize that there are many Islamic preachers, especially who are incorporated within political parties, either in Indonesia and in many other countries, who have different view on this. But since this matter is strongly related with Akidah, I need to choose the most careful standpoint which treat democracy as the opposite of Islam. I can only pray to Allah the guidance for them, includes to my friends who are still deceived by this teachings, and for sure to all of Moslem.
Now I am getting more understand why moslem became the weakest community, it because they leave Islam, and substitute it with other ideology. Moslem will only got their victory, when they use the original Islam as the only ideology, the only way of life.
